2021 Artura: New plug-in hybrid McLaren

The McLaren Artura is a hybrid sports car designed and manufactured by the British car manufacturer McLaren Automotive, scheduled to be produced in 2021. McLaren embraces a hybridized future of high performance with the sculptural 2022 Artura supercar. The newly introduced mid-engine two-seater rides on a new lightweight platform. The Artura is also the first McLaren to ride on the company's new Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), which is said to be lighter than its predecessor's structure. Its bodywork is pure McLaren, complete with prominent air vents and scissor-style doors. Along with a more premium and spacious interior than the 720S, the 2022 Artura offers several convenience and driver-assistance features.

At the heart of Artura is a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine offering 577bhp and 585Nm of torque. It’s boosted by 94bhp from the plug-in hybrid system; an electric motor powered by a 7.4kWh battery, which allows the car to be driven on electric power alone for up to 19 miles. Total combined outputs are 671bhp and 720Nm. The all-aluminum engine has a bank angle of 120 degrees, a world-first for a production V6 engine. This is to accommodate a hot-vee layout, where the two turbochargers are placed in the vee of the engine. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an all-new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Redline is at 8,500 rpm. According to McLaren, the Artura can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.3 seconds, can achieve a maximum speed of 330 km/h (205 mph), and has a 1⁄4 mile (402 m) time of 10.7 seconds.
