The Sian: Lamborghini's First Hybrid

Lamborghini has certainly planted itself as one of the much-awaited manufacturers at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the unveil of its new raging bull, the Sian. The Sián is the first super capacitor based hybrid V12 by Automobili Lamborghini. Power, beauty and the iconic Lamborghini V12 engine are coupled with an electric boost to create an unrivaled gem of engineering and technology characterized by genuine Lamborghini DNA. Lamborghini says the Sian has lots of styling elements inspired by the Countach, including its six hexagonal tail-lights. The car's Y-shaped headlight graphics are taken from the Terzo Millennio concept. Instead of lithium-ion batteries, the Sian uses supercapacitors, which are claimed to be three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight.

The supercar relies on the same 6.5-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine that’s also used by the SVJ. In this application, however, it is accompanied by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which adds 34 horsepower (25 kilowatts) for a grand total of 819 hp and gives the Lamborghini Sian a top speed of over 350 kph and a 0 to 100 kph acceleration time of just 2.8 seconds. To honor the company's founding in 1963, production of the Sian is limited to just 63 cars, with each coming at a sky-high price tag of $3.6 million and all 63 units have been sold out!
