The Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR: Inspired by the Avatar Movie

Mercedes-Benz has just pulled the wraps off of a wild new concept car that was inspired by the 2009 movie Avatar called the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR. The concept vehicle stands not only for the close collaboration in developing the show car together with the AVATAR team but also for Advance Vehicle Transformation. The concept vehicle was also designed to be a "zero impact car" by being carbon neutral and electric, which is directly correlated with Mercedes-Benz's plans to be more environmentally conscious. A total of 33 "bionic flaps" are embedded into the back of the vehicle to emulate the scales of reptiles. These scales can communicate information to the driver and to the car's surrounding environment via subtle "flowing" gestures.

The front and rear axles of the car can be driven in the same or opposite direction, enabling the car to move sideways by around 30 degrees "like a crab", as well as forwards and backward, giving the vehicle an animal-like presence. This autonomous car features a 110-kilowatt-hour electric motor that can produce 469 horsepower and a range of roughly 700 kilometers.
