Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Is a $3.3 Million Apex Hunter

French hypercar specialist Bugatti has unveiled a new version of its Chiron coupe called the Pur Sport, which turns the Chiron’s focus from straight-line speed to dynamic cornering ability. On March 3, 2020, Bugatti introduced the Chiron Pur Sport, a substantial and bold evolution of the Chiron, a handling-focused model. The Pur Sport is 50 kg lighter than the standard Chiron due to a lightweight 3D printed titanium exhaust, a fixed rear spoiler and extensive use of Alcantara, anodized aluminum and titanium on the interior. The wheels have special spokes called "aero blades" which are designed to channel turbulent air near the wheel down the side of the vehicle to the rear diffuser. There’s an additional drive mode (Sport+) which delays the deployment of traction control on a dry track, so get as lairy as you like.

Bugatti has increased the redline for its quad-turbo 8.0-liter W-16 engine by 200 rpm to 6900 rpm, though output remains the same at 1500 horsepower and 1180 lb-ft of torque. Its seven-speed automatic transmission now features 80 percent new components and has been adjusted for 15 percent closer ratios, allowing for shorter gear jumps and more aggressive acceleration at modest speeds. For example, the Pur Sport can accelerate from 60 to 120km/h nearly two seconds faster than the ‘regular’ Chiron, however top speed is capped at 350km/h, down from 420km/h. Bugatti says production of the Chiron Pur Sport will start in the second half of 2020, with a starting price of three million euros (around $3.35 million). A maximum of 60 examples will be built.
