Rolls-Royce Boat Tail: World Most Expensive Car?

Remember the Rolls-Royce Sweptail? Billed as the most expensive new car ever built at its reveal in 2017, the Sweptail was just a warm-up to Rolls-Royce's permanent return to coachbuilding. The British maker of ultra-luxury vehicles announced the new Rolls-Royce Coachbuild division, it showed off the Boat Tail as the latest in its line of coach-built cars and an example of just what is possible at its coachbuilding division, assuming money is no object. The Sweptail is rumored to have cost 10 million British pounds (approximately $14.6 million) and the Boat Tail is rumored to have cost even more.

The Boat Tail is 5.8 meters long and appears elongated because of its stainless steel pinstripe inlays. Wood finishes in the lower cabin and floor resemble the hull of a ship. Featuring the classic front design we’ve come to love from Rolls, the two-door, and four-seat grand tourer has an innovative canopy roof that can be detached at will. According to the brand, only three examples of the Boat Tail have been hand-built, entirely customized to suit the client. Rolls says that the Boat Tail has undergone the same dynamic testing as its commercial models and that it is road-legal. The car is based on Rolls' existing aluminum architecture, however, took eight months to adapt to the Boat Tail's proportions - it gets 1,813 bespoke parts. Even the stereo was updated with a 15-speaker system. Under the hood, the Boat Tail is more akin to its Phantom counterpart. It uses Rolls-Royce’s new Architecture of Luxury platform and the 563bhp 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine from the Phantom.
